CreatioDivina (divine creation or creating) hosted by BeauFolio Studio is a multimodal creative practice, incorporating the ancient Christian spiritual practice of lectio divina— divine reading and scripture meditation— alongside a guided practice of sacred art-making. Similar to lectio divina, creatio divina (as a practice of meditating on creation) is a long-standing Christian practice.
CreatioDivina is a curated version that offers a five-movement flow that invites makers and creators of all kinds into a practice of art-making designed to be accessible and communal for those who would not consider themselves traditional artists by fostering imagination, collaboration, and courageous conversations.
We engage in the practice of CreatioDivina through five major movements:
The Breath – Centering Breathing & Pause
The Invitation – Intention Setting & Releasing
The Creation – Holy Reading & Responsive Art Making
The Examination – Curiosity & Gratitude
The Ask – Open-Ended Conversation with God, Self, and Neighbor
Why does this matter?
In “The Artist’s Way,” writer Julia Cameron tells us that often, the difference between an artist and a shadow artist (someone who was made to be creative but isn’t creating) isn’t talent. It’s audacity.
We were created to be creative and to create, even if it seems that we are creating ex nihilo, or out of nothing. In seasons of stuckness, we find ourselves seeking answers and ideas outside of ourselves (books, podcasts, experts, etc). Here’s the irony— these “answers” were generated from a place of authentic creativity. Someone had to write the book, create the message, and start the podcast. Why do we seek creative answers by drawing out creativity from others when we have full-time, free access to creativity within ourselves?
To be creative, to becom an artist, all you need to do is create something.
I hope that CreatioDivina is just one practice in your creative journey that will re-introduce you to yourself as an artist.
Who’s it for?
Makers of all kinds, especially those who may not immediately understand themselves as artists or makers at all.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself. Supplies are provided.
What’s the end goal?
You are. As you create and ask questions, those “aha” moments you encounter in a community of creators are contagious. The act of creating itself will generate fresh ideas from which your life and work may thrive.
Cheers to creating, together!
